GULLETT, Hale
Brothers-In-Law Killed On Icy Parkway
Police blamed snow and ice covered roads for the late night automobile accident that claimed the lives of two Harrodsburg brothers-in-law last Thursday.
Bryan Keith Gullet, 25, of 423 Cardwell Ave., was declared dead at the accident scene at about 10:43 p.m. on March 2 by Woodford County Coroner Steve Ward.
Gregory M. Hale, 21, of 2318 Bohon Rd., died almost two hours later at Woodford Hospital in Versailles at approximately 12:20 a.m. on March 3, according to Woodford police officer Jimmy Sewell.
The two men were on their way to work at Y.A. America in Versailles when the accident occurred.
Officer Sewell, who investigated the accident, said Hale was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck east bound on Blue Grass Parkway and hit a slick spot on the Kentucky River Bridge at the Woodford/Anderson County lines.
A semi truck, driven by Richard A. Shuler, Jr. of Ohio, was following Hale at a short distance, Sewell said.
He said Hale lost control of the truck on the slick snow covered road and struck the bridge on the left side of the road, which caused the vehicle to spin around facing west bound toward the semi.
Shuler attempted to stop, according to the investigating officer, but could not and struck the pick up head on. Woodford police said the semi carried the smaller truck about 152 feet further down the road after impact.
According to Sewell, the semi driver was not injured. No one in the pick up was wearing a seat belt, according to police.
