Frank Fuqua (fuqua@concentric.net) -- FUQUA
Mary Fuqua was born on 27 November 1795 in either Charlotte County, Virginia or in an area of Clark County, Kentucky, which became Montgomery County. She grew up in Montgomery County and was enumerated in the 1810 Census for that county. Sometime between 1810 and 1814 Mary married a Richardson, probably in Montgomery County. In 1812 and 1813 a Mary Richardson was listed in the Montgomery County tax records as the owner of slaves and horses, but no land. On 12 January 1814 a prenuptial agreement was filed in Montgomery County in anticipation of an impending marriage between Mary Richardson and James Sandusky (also spelled Sodowsky Sodusky and other variations in various subsequent documents). On 18 January 1819 James Sandusky made a will which referenced his wife Mary and provisions which had been contained in the prenuptial agreement. It is clear, therefore, that he and Mary Richardson were married sometime between 12 January 1814 and 18 January 1819. The marriage probably took place in Montgomery County, where Mary lived. The Montgomery County marriage records were destroyed, so this cannot be confirmed. It can be inferred, however, because she and James lived together in Bourbon County on property which he owned prior to the marriage. The Bourbon County marriage records are complete, and do not include the marriage of Mary and James. James Sandusky died in 1819, and Mary appears to have subsequently spent time in Bourbon County, Montgomery County and finally Ralls County Missouri, where she died on 8 August 1826. She was known as Mary Sandusky in the documents which settled her estate. The administrator of her estate was her brother, James Fuqua. Mary apparently had no children, and left shares of her estate to a number of unrelated people, including James M (W) Richardson and Landie Richardson, both of whom had been tied somehow to the Fuqua family in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The relationship between James and Landie Richardson is not known, nor is their relationship to Mary Fuqua. It is believed that Mary married a Richardson who was closely related to James and Landie, and that she was widowed shortly thereafter. I am seeking any information on these Richardsons and the unknown Richardson who married Mary.
