Publishers, 1884. Oldham County. JEREMIAH L. WELMAN is a native of Oldham County, Ky.; was born June 10,
1831, and is a son of Andrew N. and Elizabeth (Williams) Welman, natives
respectively of Virginia and Kentucky. His father having died, his
mother and family moved to this county in 1845, where he has since
lived, and where his mother died August 1, 1883, in her eighty-fifth
year. Our subject was reared as a farmer, and followed the same until he
was thirty-five years of age. March 20, 1856, he married Elzina Lewallen,
a native of Kentucky. Mr. Welman began the carpentering business in
1863, and devoted himself thereto for about ten years; and then, coming
to Monrovia, engaged in the furniture and undertaking line, which he has
continued without competition. He owns a comfortable residence and good
business property. August, 1861, he enlisted in Company A, Thirty-third
Indiana Volunteers; served about eleven months, and was discharged from
physical disability, having contracted typhoid fever in the service. Mr. Welman is Tiler of Monrovia Lodge, 261, A. F. & A. M. 2. Andrew Thomas WELMAN married Sarah Pruitt in Morgan Co., KY (no date)

Elizabeth's 1820 census record shows her birth as between 1775 and 1794;
her 1830 record shows birth as between 1770 and 1780. Therefore, she was
born between 1775 and 1780. 1830 Kentucky census: Oldham County, pag 260, line 23: Elizabeth Welman,
two females 15-20 years of age, one female between 50-60.

Hopkins Henry Watkins bought out interests of wife's brother and sister
in family farm on Floyd's Fork in Oldham County, KY, October 26, 1833,
moved to Lewis Co MO in 1839. Deed from Thomas W. and Rebecca Reeves to
Hopkins H. Watkins. "THIS INDENTURE made this twenty sixth day of October one thousand eight
hundred and thirty three between Thomas W. Reeves and Rebecca Reeves his
wife of the County of Oldham and State of Kentucky of the one part and
Hopkins H. Watkins of the same county and State of the other part
WITNESSETH that the said Thomas W. Reeves for and in consideration of
the sum of one hundred and twenty three dollars - thirty five dollars
fifty six cents of which sum in hand paid - fifteen dollars to be paid
on the 25th day of December next and the balance seventy two dollars and
forty four cents to be paid on the 25th day of December 1834, they the
said Thomas W Reeves and Rebecca Reeves his wife have granted, bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell alien and
convey unto the said Hopkins H. Watkins and his heirs and assigns
forever an undivided one third part of certain tract or parcel of land
situate in the County of Oldham on the waters of Floyd's Fork containing
fifty acres being the same land owned by Cornelius Wellman and on which
he lived at his death and from whom the said Rebecca Reeves acquired
title by inheritance as one of his heirs subject to the dower interest
of the widow of the said Cornelius Wellman deceased. To have and to hold
the said undivided interest of one third of the tract of land aforesaid
subject to the dower interest aforesaid with all and singular the
appurtenances thereto belonging to the said Hopkins H. Watkins and his
heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use, benefit and
behoof and the said Thomas W. Reeves covenants with the said Hopkins H.
Watkins to warrant and forever defend the said one undivided third part
of the tract of land aforesaid subject the dower interest aforesaid to
him the said Hopkins H. Watkins and his heirs forever against the claims
of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof, the said Thomas W.
Reeves and Rebecca his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the
date first written.

deed and the said Rebecca wife of said Thomas Reeves being then and
there examined by me privily and apart from her said husband declared
that she did freely and willingly seal and deliver the said writing and
wishes not to retract it and acknowledged the said writing again shown
and explained to her to be her act and deed and consenteth the same may
be recorded. Whereupon the said deed, together with this certificate
hath been duly admitted to record in my office. Given under my hand this
9th day of December 1833.

THIS INDENTURE made this 3rd day of February one thousand eight hundred
and thirty four between George W. Wellman and Mary his wife of the
County of Oldham and State of Kentucky of the one part and Hopkins H
Watkins of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth
that the said George W. Wellman and Mary his wife for and in
consideration of one hundred and twenty two dollars and 83 cents in hand
paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained
and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the
said Hopkins H. Watkins, his heirs and assigns, all of our interest
either in law or equity in a certain tract of land lying and being in
the County of Oldham and state aforesaid on the waters of Floyd's Fork
containing fifty acres being the tract that Cornelius Wellman died
possessed of. Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereto
belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the land
hereby conveyed with the appurtenances unto the said Hopkins H. Watkins,
his heirs and assigns forever and the said George W. Wellman and Mary
his wife doth warrant and forever defend the title of said land from all
persons whatever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and
seals the date above.

Jane Wellman, from Oldham County, KY Court, Original Marriage Bonds,
Certificates, Licenses and Consent Notes of 1831-1834, LDS FHL Film
#0482444 "Know all men by these presents that we, Hopkins Henry Watkins and
Robert Callerz, are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of
Kentucky in the just and full sum of fifty pounds for the payment of
which will and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors
and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents;
sealed and stated this 11th day of February, 1832. The condition of this
obligation is such that a license hath issued from the clerks office of
the Oldham County Court for the marriage of the said Hopkins Henry
Watkins to Miss Eliza Jane Wellman, daughter of Elizabeth Wellman of
this County. Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct this marriage
intended to be solemnized between the parties aforesaid then this bond
to be void otherwise to remain in full force and ____ in law.
