Dear Sir;

Your letter to the County Clerk at Falmouth, Ky. was handed to

me today and I was asked if I could do anything to help you get a birth

certificate, being the oldest lawyer in Falmouth.

I might be able to help you, but will need some more information.

For this purpose I am enclosing a sheet with some questions.  Fill

in the questions as well as you can and mail to me.

If you need any help, get some one who can write plainly and tell

them what to write.  It will be important to have your answers written

plainly, but I was able to read all your letter.

                                                                                                Yours truly,

                                                                                                Sept. 24, 1940

Robert Lemmon was born Sept 20, 1867, at Morgan, Pendleton Co. Ky.

His father lived there then, and worked for Rev. Wm Kirkwood, the

blacksmith.

While Robert Lemmon was under 6 years of age, he ran and played with

Walter V. Dudley, whose father Bob Dudley ran a store at Morgan, and

John Minturn clerked in Mr. Dudley’s store.

When Robert Lemmon was 6 years old, his parents lived at Banklick,

near Covington.  It was swampy there, and his father had chills and

fever.  He was advised to go and jump into Banklick when he had a

spell of chills, and he did so, and never had a chill afterward.

Robert Lemmon thinks that Wm Kirkwood had some family connection or

relation with Henry Fabra’s family.

On Friday, Sept 20, 1940, Robert Lemmon had a birthday; and on

Sunday, Sept 22, 1940, he celebrated his birthday at his daughter’s,

Margaret Rankin, at Falmouth; where they had a dinner and a gathering

of several of the family

Dear Sir:

Recently your name was given to me as being one of the older residents

of Harrison Co.  I am not a relative, but as most of the Lemons of Pendle-

ton County came from Harrison Co., I am trying to get an account of the

Lemons family while some of the older ones are living.  Enclosed is a

list of questions, and I will appreciate you filling in the answers as

well as you can.  Soon there will be none, or very few left who can give

this information

Dear Madam:

Recently I had a talk with Mr. Wm Marcus Lemons, and he referred

me to you for more of the family history.  I am not a relative, but in

my old days I have tried to write an account of the early settlers of

this part of Kentucky, expecially because many of the Lemons of Pendleton

County came here from Harrison County.  Will you please fill in the

answers to questions on the enclosed sheets, and for this I will be

thankful for the help.  Soon there will be none, or very few left who

can give this account.

Mr & Mrs. Nelson Woodhead

Richmond, Ind.,

Dear Friends:

Your card of 9th recd.  I will greatly appreciate it if

you will copy the records of births, marriages, and deaths from your

old family Bible and sent to me.  And I wish you would include the dates

of birth and marriage of Nelson and Pearl; as well and of your children.

As to the Lemmon family, I would like to have the record as far

back as you have it, with dates of births, marriages and deaths.

It is true, that it may include some names who are not, or may

never have been residents of Pendleton County.  But in the history I

want to compile, I will often go outside the county, to show connections

with people who live or did live in this county.

It may be, and likely has occurred, that some of your fathers

brothers or sisters, who lived in Harrison or other counties, had

children or grandchildren who married Pendlton county people, or who

married and moved to Pendleton Co at some time.

Starting with the family of J.W. Lemmon, who lived for so long a

time in Pendleton, I would like to have his generation, both forward and

back, as far as your information can furnish.  Just a few days ago I

chanced upon the history of a soldier in the Union Army during the

Civil War, whose Orderly Sergeant was J.W. Lemmon.

Robert Lemmon told me that his father kept a Journal or record of

the people he married, all of them.  I was wondering if you have that

book.  Robert said he thought perhaps you might have it.  It would be of

great interest to peruse its pages.  Let me know if you have it, and

if there would be some way I could get to make notes from its records.

                With best wishes, I remain,

                                                Yours truly,

Dear Friends:

I have undertaken to get up a history of the old

settlers of Pendleton County, and after talking with Robert Lemon,

he suggested that Pearl had the old record book of Bro. Lemmon,

which would give a lot of information, especially about marriages,

and many other things of interest along the line I am interested in.

I am wondering what would be the best way to have access to

that record.  If Pearl would trust the book with me a short while,

I suggest that it be sent by express, with charges collect, and

after making copies of needed material, I will return it prepaid;

and promise to take the best of care of it.

Such records are rare, and the younger generation will bless

the one who took the care and trouble to keep such records.

I have always been interested in the accounts of the older

people of the days they settled this county, cleared the woods and

built the roads, school houses and churches, and carried on and made

the county what it is today.  Many of them have passed away; and

there has been little done to keep their memories  alive.  I feel

like something of the kind I have undertaken, is due to them.  And

it is to be regretted this work was not begun years ago, when so

much could have been saved.

My plan is to put the material in book for, so it will be

a permanent record for all generations to come.  If you approve the

idea of letting me get some of the material of Bro. Lemmon’s old

book, write and let me know, and suggest what seems to you the

most practical way of having access to the records.

                                                                Yours truly,
Doyle A. Lonaker.
