About Me, Lynda Combs Gipson

I've lived in Kentucky all my life. My husband Jerry and I have been married 33 years. We have three children and 5 grandchildren.

I am a Combs and related families Genealogist and I've started a website just for Hazard and Perry Co. Kentucky Genealogy.

Now, I want to tell you about my Combs ancestry so I'll start with John Combs who first came to Kentucky. (Around Perry County)

He had eight sons who came with him. One of his sons was John Combs, Jr. who fought in the American Revolution.

John Jr. married Margaret Nantz and they had several children, one being Jeremiah "Long Jerry" Combs. Long Jerry was my ggg grandfather. He married Sally Whitely and they had a son named Nicholas.

Nicholas Combs fought in the Civil War. He was captured and sent to Johnson Island in Sandusky Ohio. Later he was shanghaied on a ship going to a horrific prison at Point Lookout in Maryland. He was imprisioned there until the war ended then was turned loose to walk all the way back home to Perry Co. Kentucky. He made it home, but was in a terrible state of health, which I'm almost positive he never fully recovered. After a while he acquired the nick name "Shanghai Nick".

Just before the Civil War Nick married Eliza J. Williams. They had several children, one being my gg grandfather, Jeremiah "Jerry" Combs.

Jerry married Mary Peters from Owsley Co Ky, they settled in Clark Co. Ky. Jerry and Mary had eight children. One was Courtney Allen Combs (my grandfather) who married Nancy "Clay" Owen (no s) and he became a well known Chiropractor in Harlan Ky.

Courtney and Clay had two children, a daughter and a son. The son was named Courtney "Allen" Combs Jr. (My Dad) who married Gene Speaks Evans from Bourbon Co. Ky. And one of their three children was me!
