HOMECOMIN' TIME IN THE MOUNTAINS

It's homecomin' time in the mountains
and I can't wait to see
my many friends and relations
who mean so much to me.

Twas' many a year ago
I left my mountain home
I guess I took a hankerin'
to see the world and roam.

I've traveled this world over
from Californy to New York Fair
but I jus' got a yearnin'
to breathe some mountain air.

I want to pull my shoes off
and wiggle agin' my toes
and set back in a big can chair
and rock away my woes.

I long to see the settin' sun
and hear the rooster crow
I'm homesick for the mountains
and I'm comin' back fer shore.

I can jus' smell the bacon fryin'
and the coffee perkin' loud
jus' to delve into some mountain cookin'
would make this soul right proud.

I guess I'll founder on corn pone
and let gravy run down my shirt
but as long as this feller's happy
don't see how this could hurt.

At night I'll sit out on the porch
and smoke an old cob pipe
while listening to the bullfrogs croak
now, this is living right!

Why jus' settin' here a-thinkin'
of the many things I'll do
makes this feller all a-quiver
Kentucky, I'm comin' home to you!

Ma, turn back the "kivers"
and put the pot on the stove
this rovin' boy's a-comin' home
and darn right soon, by jove.
