From: Larry&Laura wright Subject: [KYRUSSEL] TIMES JOURNAL-OCTOBER 13 1949 Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 12:19:06 -0700 THE TIMES JOURNAL RUSSELL SPRINGS KENTUCKY OCTOBER 13 1949 No 1 TYPED AS PUBLISHED & SUBMITTED By Laura Frost Wright EDITOR MAKES STATEMENT For many years we have cherished a desire to own and piblish a weekly newspaper. The Times Journal is the culmination of that desire. Since we have planned so long for this venture it is only natural that we want it to be as great a success as humanly possible. Therefore, it seems proper to set forth briefly in these colums a few of the principles we intend to follow and some of the goals toward which we work. In the first place we intend to publish a non-sectarian, non-political newspaper. We shall adhere to no group or groups. no certain race or races. In other words we intend to favor no special interests. Rather our uppermost thought"s shall alway"s be to report the news fairly and honestly. We intend to maintain an editorial page, and our editorials shall be always as far as are capable of knowing, to the best interests of the whole county. We will never promote one area while sacrificing another. Instead we want all of russell county to grow as far as its capabilities are possible, and we want each area to grow along according to its own potentialities. There are many people in this county who are under the impression that when the Wolf Creek dam is completed that Russell County"s progressive future will be at an end. Let us say now that The Time"s Journal"s stand is not along those lines. We beleive that Russell County"s future has only begun. We beleive that the opportunities that will be made possible when the dam is completed will have added ten fold to the prominence of Russell County in the history of the state of kentucky. We realise that all the people of the whole county must work hard and opttimistically to bring about this prominence And we of the Times Journal want to work with the people. We want to become a great medium for the promotion of the prominence of Russell County. We feel sure that you will work with us, our promise from the bottom of our hearts, is to work with you. Together the task of promoting this county will be easier, a certainty Russell County will be on the march. ___________________________________________________________________________ USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genelaogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
