On April 1, 1820, Todd officially
became the sixty-fourth county of Kentucky. The name was to honor Col.
John Todd, who fell in the Battle of Blue Lick. Nestled between its parent
counties of Christian and Logan Counties in Kentucky. Bordered to the south by Montgomery and Robertson Counties in Tennessee. Todd County is 30 miles long, 12 miles wide, with a total
area of 367 square miles. The town of Elkton was designated as the County
Seat.

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky
Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. This project became known as KYGenWeb.
Within just a few months, most of the Kentucky counties had a volunteer
coordinator, and it was decided to expand the project to include the other
states, the USGenWeb was born.
Todd County joins the online genealogy community in saluting the great contributions
made by Jeff Murphy, founder of KYGenWeb and USGenWeb. |
