Tuesday,
June 14: Harold Wilson, retired chemistry and physics teacher will speak on Touring the Civil War Sites of Calhoun.
Harold’s late brother, Don Wilson, researched and wrote a book (unpublished)
called The Boys of Calhoun. The
Wilson men grew up hearing stories of the Civil War in Calhoun. Since this is
the 150th anniversary of the Civil War it should be very
interesting.
Tuesday,
September 13: Dr. Abraham Byrd III, genealogist and Revolutionary War buff will
speak on The Revolutionary War. A
native of McLean County and member of the McLean County History and Genealogy
Museum, Dr. Byrd lives in Tucson, Arizona, where he is a practicing physician.
Tuesday,
December 13: Holiday Open House at the Family Research Center. This is a meet
and greet social event and you will have time to check out the resources of our
library. There will be a very brief business meeting at 7 p.m. for the election
of officers for the 2012 year.

member Mary Alice Springer spoke on "The Star Spangled Banner." Her
lecture included a stirring account of the War of 1812 battle that inspired
Francis Scott Key to pen the lyrics of our National Anthem. Thanks Mary Alice!

digital restoration of old photographs. WCKFRA Vice-President, Barbara Hilyerd, demonstrated and explained the use of a digital

speaker was Dr. Dean Weber, of Owensboro. Dr. Weber related his experience in
the acquisition and preservation of a large collection of historic artifacts of
Bullitt Co., Ky. The collection includes a large
number of photographs, and several artifacts now held by the Filson Historical Society.

J. Neill as speaker at the Executive Inn Rivermont in
Owensboro. The all-day seminar was enjoyed by many. Several vendors were in
attendance.

We celebrated the 150th anniversary of the founding of McLean Co., Ky. Ann Vincent spoke on the history of McLean Co. Ann is a 4th generation descendant of Alney McLean, for whom the county is named.

Joe
Ford entertained the audience with several hair-raising ghost stories of local
origins. His wife, Grace Carter Ford, spoke on the Joe Ford Library of Science
& History, which opened Oct. 9 in Brescia University's Science Building.
The library contains papers and specimens Joe has amassed during his 80-year
life as a nature lover.
