Obits: Faulkner, Russell, died 04/04/1953 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ************************************************************************ Wolfe County News - April 23, 1953 WOLFE VETERAN HOSPITALIZED 5 YEARS, PASSES Russell Faulkner, son of John W. and Matilda Donahue Faulkner was born March 1, 1915 deceased April 4, 1953 in the U.S. Veterans hospital, Hines, ILL. He voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army early in life serving in the Aleutian Islands 47 months without a furlough. After which he was home with his parents on a 10-day leave and immediately sailed to Guadalcanal in the So. Pacific where he remained for the remainder of six year period spent in service. Subsequent to this a short leave was spent at home to enlist in the Merchant Marine where he served for three years during which he sailed all the seas. Russell was seriously injured in an auto accident March 2, 1948, resulting in his body from the neck down being completely paralyzed. As a result of the injury he was confined to the Veterans Hospital, Hines, ILL for the past five years. A most fitting tribute was paid in a church funeral at the Church of God with Rev. Olgan E. Smith in charge.
