Woodford County, originally a county in Virginia, was formed in 1789, and is located located in the inner bluegrass region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 469 to 1000 feet above sea level. In 1990 the county population was 19, 995 in a land area of 190 square miles, an average of 105 people per square mile. Check the 2000 census stats.
The county seat is Versailles (pronounced "Vur-sales"). Other smaller communities in the county are Clifton, Midway, Millville, Mortonsville, Nonesuch and Spring Station.
Woodford County is the home of Midway College and numerous horse farms. Elkhorn Creek flows through the county on its way to the Kentucky River, and Woodford County is included in in a Southeastern U.S. Project/Study involving an ecosystem approach of preserving the integrity of this waterway.
