CARTER posted by Jerry Wright Jordan on Saturday, June 29, 1996

Looking for the parents of Isaac Coleman Carter, born 5 Nov 1859/1860 (conflicting data on year). Nothing is known about his family or where in KY he was born. However, he did name a son Joseph Coleman Carter, Jr (even though his name was Isaac Coleman Carter). Dr Joseph Coleman Carter who lived and died in Woodford Co. Is there a connection?
Isaac Coleman Carter was living in Red River Co., TX when he entered the Kentucky School of Medicine in 1884. He was not on the census of Red River Co., TX in 1880, however. Isaac graduated in 1885 and set up his practice in TX. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GOTTSCHALL, GUDGEL, GUDSHALL posted by Linda Finnell on Wednesday, July 3, 1996

Searching for information on the descendants of Andrew GUDSHALL/GUDGEL(L)/GOTTSCHALL(K) from PA who marr. wife # 3: Elizabeth "Betsy" PAUL PAYN/PAYNE in 1793 in Woodford Co., KY. Elizabeth was a widow with young children when she married Andrew. Together they had 3 children: Nancy Jane (b. 1797), Hetty "Hester" (b. ca. 1800) and William (b. 1801). Andrew owned land and a mill in the vicinity of Glen's Creek in Woodford Co., KY but due to an unclear title and legal disputes he lost his land and went to Gibson Co., IN in 1810/11. Elizabeth died there in 1823 and Andrew died in 1815.
Who was the first husband of Elizabeth, a Mr. PAYN/PAYNE? Family lore says that her maiden name was PAUL. Related surnames in Woodford Co. of Andrew's former children who came to KY with him were ODEM/ODOM, WOODFIELD, STUCKER, MITCHELL, DRISKELL, HARBISON and MUSICK. Any leads or help would be appreciated. Thanks, Linda GUDGEL FINNELL.

GARDNER, PULIS posted by Gary W. Beathan on Wednesday, July 10, 1996

Seeking information on a marriage of David PULIS and Mary Ann GARDNER. David is listed with family on 1820 census of Woodford. David and his first wife, Phoebe TAYLOR, moved from New York City sometime after 1810. Their last child, Samuel Edward PULIS was born ca. 1818 in either Scott or Woodford County. Sometime between Samuel's birth in 1818 and 1822, Phoebe died and David remarried Mary Ann GARDNER, a daughter of Thomas GARDNER. The GARDNERS were originally from Maryland. David and Mary Ann's first child, Thomas M. PULIS was born 15 August 1822 in Scott County. Both families were Catholic at that time. Are early Catholic marriages available for the Scott/Woodford County area for this time period?? By 1830 David and his family have removed to Marion County, Missouri and by 1840 to Ralls County, Missouri. Any help would be appreciated? Thank You!!

LAFOE, SAMUEL posted by R. Lafoe on Saturday, August 24, 1996

Looking for any info on the LaFOE's and SAMUEL's in Woodford County. Zachariah LaFOE married Emily SAMUELS 9-20-1821 in Caroline County, Virginia but on 4-30-1833, Zach, Emily and a James SAMUELS purchased 94 acres on the Kentucky River at the end of what is now Watts Ferry Road. The family owned the land until it was sold by William and Selena LaFOE HALL in the early 1900's. Can not find if James SAMUELS was Emily's father or not, and found an Elizabeth that lived a couple miles north of the LaFOE's along the river that could be her mother. A number of the family still lives in the Versailles area. Any help or info would be much appreciated. Robert E. LaFoe
