I'm looking for information on the CORNWELL surname. I have some information that there were Cornwell's in that area in the early 1800's and we do know that my great-grandfather Lewis Ballard Cornwell was possibly born in Kentucky. Not sure of his father's name, either Lewis or James Monroe Cornwell and his mother was possibly a Rachael Budd. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

SHOTTON posted by Karen Chambliss on Sunday, February 16, 1997

My gg grandfather Christopher Shotton is shown on the 1810 US Census as living in Woodford County,KY. He had a wife (25-46 yrs), 2 daughters & 1 son under age 10. I descend from his son William Newby Shotton who is shown on the 1850 US Census in Knox County, Missouri as being born in Virginia. Family records list his date of birth as 8 May 1806. His brother, Christopher Columbus Shotton was born in Lexington, KY 1 May 1813. I have no record of Christopher Shotton's wife's name or the names of his parents (who family records show came from England). I could not find Christopher Shotton on the 1820 US Census in Woodford County, KY. Both his son's appear on the 1840 US Census in Knox County, Missouri. Christopher (the father) seems to have vanished. Would there be any records in Woodford Cty that might show his wifes name? deeds? tax records? or for that matter Christopher's date & place of birth or he may have died there. There are many, many Shotton's in County Durham, England and I have found a christening record for a Christopher in about 1772 listing his father as John - no mother's name is listed. Additionally, I have found a marriage record for a John Shotton and an Eleanor Newby 25 Jun 1765 inDurham County, England. This could be the source of the middle name of my gg grandfather William Newby Shotton. Would Woodford County have been part of Virginia in 1806 when William Newby was born? I need some assistance in hunting for information on Christopher & his family in KY. Can you offer a suggestion as to the places I should search in KY? Thank you so much, Karen Chambliss, 1704 Sarkesian Drive, Petaluma, CA 94954 104645.27@compuserve.com
