|First Families of LA Certificate Program|For five decades the Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society has assisted both the novice and the professional genealogist in the search for their ancestors.
When the Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society was founded, the stated purpose was "to collect, preserve and make available genealogical and historical materials; to assist its members in tracing their genealogy; to ascertain the location of public and private records, that they may be made available to students of genealogy; and to aid in investigation of this nature." Fifty years later, the purpose of the Society remains the same. Ongoing programs and special projects focus upon these goals.
The Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society
maintains this web site for their members, but anyone is welcome to view
it. LGHS also sponsors a mailing list, genconnect boards, and other online
items of interest to its members. Interested readers may click
here to access information about these online services.
