The Genie

Effective with the 1st Quarter 2014 issue, The Genie is prepared and distributed electronically as a pdf document to members who have provided an email address. The Genie is published quarterly and is emailed to each member and to institutions who subscribe to this publication. The Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association also participates in an exchange agreement with other organizations that publish similar genealogical publications.

  • BOOK REVIEWS: Reviews of books of genealogical interest are published in The Genie when the books are donated by the publisher or author. These books are then made available to the public through the Broadmoor Branch Genealogy Department of the Shreve Memorial Library, as is all other genealogical material of the Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association.
  • QUERIES ARE WELCOMED AND ARE FREE: Be concise. The suggested length is about 80 words or less for the average single family query, but exceptions can be made for more complex queries. Queries should be typed or plainly printed. Queries should include as much relevant information as possible, i.e. county or parish, time era, etc, and also include your contact (name and address).
  • OTHER INFORMATION: We are always looking for short family history ariticles, narratives, and sketches to be included in the Genie, particularly if there is an Ark-La-Tex connection. Photos of ancestors can also accepted as part of a family history story. We also welcome local town and church histories. Please include footnotes or sources, as appropriate. All material is subject to edit. Note: Any prior copyrights must be protected. Please mail typed queries or other information to: Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association, P. O. Box 4463, Shreveport LA 71134. The Genie is indexed in the Periodical Source Index (PERSI).
