I am searching for information on three surnames from the DeQuincy, LA area around 1900-1920 or possibly later. William Thomas COWARD (1854?- 1926) was married to Virginia Ann BURKS Coward (ca 1868) . They had 10 children during the years 1885-1912, and at some point therein they relocated to Port Neches, TX. I believe that William's mother's name was Mary S. COWARD, born ca 1828 in KY. He had a half-brother Edward T. PIERCE, and full siblings Allen W. Coward and Margaret A. Coward. I have no name for the father of William, Allen or Margaret and believe Edward Pierce was from a prior marriage.
Virginia Ann / known as Jennie / BURKS may be the daughter of Daniel and Luand (no maiden?) BURKS. Daniel was born ca 1822 in LA. Luand was born ca 1840 in MS. Virginia's siblings were Andrew J. (ca 1858), Hariet J. (ca 1853), Franklin M. (ca 1862), Martha E. (ca 1864) and Henry C. (ca 1870).

My father was born in Ikes, Beauregard Parish in 1907. His father was William Benjamin FERRIS, his mother Viola Rosalie Wolfe, both born in Cameron to the best of my knowledge. I am looking for information on my Father and his brother, Percy William Ferris. I am unsure of the brothers date of birth, but I have it on good authority he was killed about Oct 1931 in a train accident in DeRidder. Both my cousin and myself would deeply appreciate any and all information or directions we might get that could lead us to information about this accident (I promise, purely for our genealogy information). Percy is burried in DeRidder, but there is no marker, and no other information available.

For your own interest/purposes, I list here the surnames of my ancestors, all (or most) of whom lived in Beauregard Parish beginning in the early 1800's. No doubt many of their descendants are still there or nearby. The NAMES: Whitman, Lee, Hudson, Dotson, Adams, Raines, Mitchum, Starks, Newton, Canty, Sterling, Rice, Carroll. There are more of course. I have 16-first cousins and have seen the faces of none. I last visited Merryville in Sept 1960 and held my girld child as the fifth generation for a picture that included Leona Lee, Bertha Adams and Helen Rice for the first 3-generations. Although neither I nor my parents have visited there for years, I have an enormous amount of information to give to you if you wish. Of course, I will have to verify everything with my parents first. My paternal grandmother died Nov 11, 1997. She was 100-years, 4-months, 22-days. She was born in Lake Charles and lived much of her life in Merryville. Her name was Bertha Lee (Raines) Dotson Adams. Her second son is my father: Edmund Earline Dotson. I have no particular interest in genealogy NOR in my ancestors ( most of whom apparently did little of notice nor remembrance during their lives). HOWEVER, I do have an interest in exciting my parents' lives.
