The Ridge School and Church was established by 1849 as Elizabeth Carlisle stated, she had attended school in 1849, and was married there on 14 March 1852 to Richard Willard Womack. Elizabeth and Richard Willard Womack are both buried in the Cemetery in the rear of the Church House. It is located near Castor, in Bienville Parish, La. The cemetery is still used by the descendants of the families that are buried there. The last time that the Church was known to be used was the funeral of Louiza Elizabeth Myers Womack, in 1962, who was the daughter of Martha Ann Williams Myers and William Marion Myers. The church has been replaced many times and at this time is abandoned. When William Marion Myers was a deacon of The Ridge Church, he set the day for a memorial to be held each year. It was set for the third Saturday, before the fourth Sunday each April. It is still being held at present time. Everyone gathers at the Church and Cemetery, having dinner on the ground, and grave yard cleaning. |
