Glade Plantation Cemetery

Graves were moved to the Jena Cemetery when the Corp of Engineers
dug a new
channel for Black River, right through the area of Glade Plantation.
There is a
marker for the graves that were moved.

The Beard home at Glade was built by William Beard (1803-ca1875). William Beard
came to Louisiana from Pennsylvania in about 1837 with his son George W. Beard
(1827-1852). William married widowed Julia Elizabeth Holstein Holmes (1804-ca1875)
in about 1840. She had three children from her first marriage, Benjamin K. Holmes
(b. 1830), William Holmes (b. 1832), and Mary Ann Holmes (1832-1865). William
and Julia Elizabeth Beard had two children: Julia Elizabeth (1843-1874) and
Michael Johnston Beard (1847-1888). Mary Ann Holmes was married to Dr. G.B.
May of Black River. After her death, he married Julia Elizabeth Beard, and after
her death in 1874, Dr. May married Clara Amanda Wilmoth. Michael Johnston Beard
married Annie Maria Montgomery in 1869.
The graves listed are for William Beard, his wife Elizabeth Beard, his son
George Jr., their son Mike J., Mike's wife Annie Maria, their daughter Annie
Maria, Julia Elizabeth Beard's daughter Mary A., William and Elizabeth's daughter
Julia Elizabeth May, Mary A.'s son Albert Sidney, an unknown infant Beard, Salley
Beard (1878-1895) daughter of Mike J. and Annie Maria, and Charles Meyers, not
a member of the family.
