15 August 1809 - Last Will and Testament of JONAS SCOGGINS,
P.21 District p.21 of Orleans, Catahoula District
I, JONAS SCOGGINS, being weak of body, but perfect mind and memory, having made this my last will and testament ... having theretofore given by my deed of gift to my two daughters, POLLY and AMELICE, their full proportion of my estate for which they and their husbands... also have given my son, JOHN, that plantation whereon he now lives... and many other things ... give and bequeath to each of the above named one Spanish dollar each which I declare to be their full proportion of my estate.
Item 1 - I give and bequeath to my son, SALEM, the tract of land adjoining the plantation whereon I now reside as his portion to have and to hold the same as his portion
One third of my estate to my beloved wife, CATHERINE SCOGGINS, and the other two-thirds to my daughters, NANCY and RACHEL ... NANCY and RACHEL to get equally divided share of the plantation whereon JONAS SCOGGINS now lives after a term of eight years ... this plantation contains 800 acres ... CATHERINE SCOGGINS is named executrix, and ISIAH SLAYTER executor ...
