WHAT'S NEW!

Photographic History of Madison Parish Available

Arcadia Publishing Company’s Images of America series now includes a
photographic history of Madison Parish. Released on April 15, 2003 this
book includes historical data, drawings, graphs, maps and photos of the
Madison Parish area relative to the years 1800-1927. The book is divided
into five chapters that document the Early 1800’s, Civil War, Reconstruction,
Early 1900’s and 1927 flood.

The book is available at several locations in Tallulah, including Madison
Historical Society’s Hermione Museum, as well as at major bookstores
such as Barnes and Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks and Books-A-Million.
It is also available online at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Arcadia
Publishing and others.

Obituaries — Added over 150 obituaries from the years 1944, 1951, 1961, 1962 and 1966. Obituaries (and Biographies) are now hyperlinked to cemetery data with over 1500 currently available; many are on former Madison Parish residents not necessarily buried in Madison Parish and some now include photos. Additional obituaries are welcome.

Old Tallulah Phonebooks— The years 1957, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1972, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1986 and 1987 have now been added in PDF format. This provides an almost continuous record of most of the families living in Madison Parish from 1955 to 1987.

Census Images — The 1810, 1820, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1900, 1920 and 1930 Census Images have now been reformatted to PGF from JPEG. This allows for much higher resolution, since the images can be enlarged many times with little loss of clarity. However, the images must be read with the Adobe Reader program or an ActiveX PDF plug-in both of which are free.
