Welcome to the Orleans
Parish, Louisiana
Website
The site is organized so that
all similar information is together and
provides links to other areas of the site
that have additional information (i.e.
church locations in the "Land" section
will have links to any online church
records in the "People" section). This is
to make the researcher's life
easier. The structure is as
follows:
- Parish
History: All about the
history of the area--time lines,
events, etc. Demographics and some
maps (mostly current-day) are
included.
- People:
How to find people information--be it
birth-marriage-death records, census
information, burials, bible records,
etc. This includes sections on
African American, Native American
source information and military
information. Anything that has to do
with finding a
person.
- Land: The
Land category includes map
information and land record
resources.
- Resources: Includes
many resources already found
elsewhere on the site and categorizes
them so that similar types of
resources can all be found in one
place: religious/ethnic resources;
county, state & national
resources; online resources; queries,
etc.
- Volunteer
Exchange: A place to
capture all of the volunteer
resources available to use, or
contribute to.
- Old
Queries: These are the
old surname queries from the prior
site. All new queries should go in
the appropriate
surname forum at Rootsweb or on
the
Orleans Parish query
board.
About the Louisiana USGenWeb Project
In March and April, 1996, a group of
genealogists organized the Kentucky
Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was
to provide a single entry point for all
counties in Kentucky, where collected databases
would be stored. In addition, the databases
would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even
if an individual were found in more than one
county, they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who
were willing to coordinate the collection of
databases and generally oversee the contents of
the web page. The Louisiana USGenWeb Project is
an extension of the KY GenWeb Project. The
person responsible for Orleans Parish is
