Plaquemines
Parish was
founded in 1807. Being the southern most parish in Louisiana; it is a
peninsula, surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico. The mighty Mississippi River
divides the parish in two, and empties into the gulf here. The great
"River Road" begins, and ends in the parish; and the hunting and
fishing are unbelieveable. As of 1990, the population of the parish was
25,575 people. With a water area of 1,584.0 square miles, and land area covering
some 844.6 square miles; the population averages out to approx. 30.3 people
per square mile. The parish seat is Pointe A la Hache.
