Built about 1830, Evergreen was the main house of what was at one time a large sugarcane plantation.  Prior to 1812 the land was owned by Madame Pierre Becnel II.  Evergreen belonged to descendants of Michel Pierre Becnel and Desirée Brou until about 1890.
Today Evergreen is open for tours, but only for organized bus tours.
