NEW ORLEANS CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, October 17, [year missing] In memory of Sister Hester Ann Duckworth Nesom (nee Newsom). She was born Oct. 20, 1822, and was married to Abraham Nesom, June 20, 1841, and died Aug. 7, 1901. She was the mother of fourteen children--nine boys and five girls. All of them are dead except three boys and two daughters. She joined the M. E. Church, South, in her girlhood. I only knew Sister Nesom a short time, but the record left of her life tells for itself. She was a true Christian all of her life, even down to old age. She was happy in the Lord, and died in the arms of her Savior. She had a bright and happy experience, always abounding in the Lord. She had that faith that would not take any denial. She was only sick a few days. She had heart trouble, and one morning, when she arose from her chair to start across the house, her heart failed, and she fell to the floor, hurting herself very badly, and only lived seven or eight days. She died in the faith. We can surely say that her death was our loss and her gain. She was a mother to all this country. She sacrificed this life in service both to God and her friends. She leaves a great host of loved ones and friends to mourn over her loss. On the seventh of August she was laid to rest by the side of her husband, who had gone on many years before, and there was the largest number of people at this burial that I have seen for many years to pay their last respects to this mother and sister in Israel. Her pastor, J. H. Montgomery
