I cannot stress too strongly that the names in this index were those written in Miss Laïse Ledet's book, just as she wrote them. There are variations in spelling, which probably mean that when she found them in a source, such as a census or baptismal record, they were spelled that way. For instance, if the given name of Charles was found written as Carlos, then she wrote "Carlos" in the book. Sometimes the same person is found in different places in the book with a different name. It is therefore important to look up different spellings of certain surnames as well as first or given names.
