Most of these families are found (or originate) in Tennessee or Kentucky. The greatest concentration of persons seems to be from the area of Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY. Perhaps some additional data from Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Bowling Green would help clarify the relationships. Some of the Peddicord family were slave owners, although in some cases, it seems that ownership of the slaves came from the wife's family. For instance the will of Hannah (nee Owings) Peddicord in Washington County MD names

John Carleton Peddicord who ran a grocery store near Goshen, in Montgomery County MD and his wife Lucy Harriett owned slaves. John Carleton Peddicord's will of 2 July 1842 (Y/28) apparently proved 27 Sept 1842 (H/1842) in Montgomery Co., leaves property to his wife Lucy Harriett (who is now sick and may not recover) The will states that his slaves are to get property if wife dies before testator and friend Lemeul Clements to be trustee and he also to purchase a lot of land for slaves. His wife's will of 26 Sept 1842 (Y/32) and proved 12 Oct 1842 (Y/279) bequests to her slaves the entire estate with Lemuel Clement as trustee to purchase land for them. Perhaps further research on Montgomery Co Probates records might provide further insight.
In the 1850 census of Ohio County, KY living in the household of Benjamin Riley is a Hannah Petticord, age 64 female, Mulatto, born in MD. In the 1860 census of Ohio Co., KY in the household of Caleb Peddicord, son of Higgenson Peddicord (brother of John Carleton above) and brother-in-law of Benjamin Riley, is Hannah PETTICORD age 80 Female Mulatto, Free b. KY. (note: Benjamin Riley;s wife was Cassandra Peddicord, Caleb's sister.)
