Descendants of Nicholas Peddicord of Pennsylvania
This branch of the Peddicord Family can be found in the records starting in the 1790 census in Bedford Co., PA and settled by the early 1800s in Indiana Co., PA. A Sarah Wilson, from Bedford County was married to a Peddicord and that is presumed to have been Nicholas. Nicholas' parentage is not known. the most likely candidate for his father is probably Dorsey Petticoart (the son of John Petticoarte and Sarah Dorsey). There is a Nicholas Peddicord in the 1776 Census of Frederick Co., MD who is age 26, which seems to indicate that might be the same Nicholas Peddicord
who moved to PA. With this Nicholas PEDDICOAT in the 1776 census are also listed. John Morrow age 24, Richard Roach age 22, and William Kirch age 13. Another less plausible theory is that Nicholas Peddicord of PA was the son of Nicholas Peddicord and Elizabeth Shelmerdine. This Nicholas is listed in 1778 as with 3 taxables in Montgomery Co MD. This Nicholas is known to be the son of William Peddicord and Sarah Belt. However, since William and Sarah were married ca 1729-1730, we would guess their son Nicholas was born in the 1730s and therefore unlikely to be the father of Nicholas born ca. 1750.
Glenn Peddicord, found some records in the Frederick Co., MD that that referenced some wills and probate for Bedford Co PA. There was an estate forJohn Wilson in 1774 that lists a daughter named Sarah Peddicort, also a daughter who was married to "Selln" and an underage son. Nicholas is in the 1790 census of Bedford Co PA Nicholas Peddicord is listed with 4 boys and 4 females. In the 1810 census of Wheatfield Twp, Indiana Co. Nicholas is listed near his son John. So he may have had 2 other daughters for whom we have no records, other than the census indication.
