Hugh Tracey of Prince Georges and Charles Counties

Hugh Tracey is the least documented of the early Tracey settlers in Maryland. Hugh Tracey witnessed the lease of the one acre to Josias Towgood on Mount Calvert Mannor on the west side of the Patuxent River in the freshes near the dividing of said river, in a parcel of land called Charles Town from William Groome of PG Co., innholder and wife Mary on 22 April. 1697. [Note that Josias Towgood was a witness to Teague and Thomas Tracey's conveyances in Anne Arundel Co in 1704 and also witnessed the lease to Charles Tracey of 100 Acres in 1697 from Richard Groome.]

He was a witness to the will of William Selby of PG Co., dated 5 Nov 1698, in Prince Georges Co.

Hugh Tracy is listed as receiving payment from the estate of Richard Tilyard of Charles county in an inventory of Tilyard's estate filed 10 Feb 1710. There is a administrative account in Charles Co for Hugh Tracey in 1709 {Bk 21, folio 209}; no heirs are listed in this account. However in Charles county there is a James Tracey who in 1710 is listed as in the administration of an estate. It is unknown which family this James is related to Hugh or any of the other Traceys..

Hugh Tracey is found in Mount Calvert Manor along with Charles, Teague, and Thomas Tracey. What if any realtionship existed between Hugh and these other three Traceys is not certain. It appears that Hugh died in Charles county by 1709 and died intestate.
