The KEEDY/GEETING family appears to originate in Seigen Germany. The KEEDY family is the namesake of Keedysville, MD.
It appears from the German Church Records, family stories, and the records of the family in Maryland that the first immigrants were two cousins Johann and Henrich Güding/Gütting. We know that Henrich arrived in Philadelphia 22 Sept 1752 on the ship Halifax and that he patented the tract of land Mannheim 17 Oct 1755 in Frederick Co., MD. However, the family history, given in the History of Washington County, Maryland,relates that the father of Henry and Ludwig KEEDY died at sea on the Voygue over. The German Church Records show that Henry (b. 1741) and Ludwig KEEDY of Washington Co were the sons of Johann Güding and Anna Maria Hener. The Heinrich KEEDY appears to be the brother of George Adam GEETING. It is suspected that Heinrich married the widow of his cousin, and thus was the step father of Henry and Ludwig Keedy who appear in the late 18th century in Washington Co., MD.
Mr. Guy Jones has been very helpful in providing information that has allowed me to piece the family together, though the mystery is not solved, for I do not know definitely the issue of Ludwig KEEDY, except for two suspected daughters of his. My own linage includes Elizabeth Keedy daughter of Jacob Keedy and Susan Maysilles
