Washington County Genealogy Families
This page is an index for the various families I am researching in Washington Co., MD. One
group of families lived around Beaver Creek, Boonsboro, and Funkstown and are mostly of German ancestry.
The other families are from around Williamsport. Genealogical Data is provided for the descendants of these families
through the early 1900s. (In some cases I do have more recent data also.) The data is presented in the form of
linked group sheets and as HTML files generated from text narratives. I only have uploaded so far the families with an indicated link,
ones that are not linkd are in the works..
WASHINGTON COUNTY FAMILIES
- FUNK There were several Funk families in Washington County. The family addressed here are descendants of Samuel Funk and Barbara
Eavy. They immigranted from Germany to the Beaver Creek area of Washington County about 1748.
- FURRY/FORRIE The Furry or Forrie families probably came from PA in the 18th century, a lot of work is still needed on this line.
- HOUSER The Housers were another 18th century German immigrants to Washington County.
- KEEDY/GEETING/GEEDING The Keedy/Geeting family came to Washington Co MD from Seigen, Germany. The Name in German was Güding or Gütting and
was anglicanized to either Keedy or Geeting.
- MAYSILLIES The Maysilles are another family of Germanic background that came to Washington Co. from PA.
- NEWCOMER This lines traces the descendants and Peter Newcomer who immigranted to Lancaster Co., PA before 1717. His three grandsons: Henry, Peter, and
Christian settled in the Beaver Creek area of Washington County just before the Revolutionary War. There was also another Newcomer family located near
Leitersburg, that family starts with a Christian Newcomer, and his ancestry is not known. There may or may not be a relationship
between the two Newcomer families. The mystery is in the 1732 will of Peter Newcomer of Lancaster Co. who only mentions son Wolfgang, though
elder son, Johannes, was involved in the probate of the estate. The will mentions that Wolfgang, the middle son was to raise his younger brothers and sisters. It is unknown who the younger
brother(s) were
- STERLING The Sterling family has lived around Williamsport since the early 1800s and possibly were in the area before the Revolutionary War, though the family has
been hard to trace since they rented rather than owned land.
