The first known Alles and founder of the original Alles families of the Southern Province was Vijayasundara Bernard Alles whose name appears in the year 1610.

Bernard was the son of Varadamune Vijayasundara Mudiyannane and Gimara de Costa. He was baptised by the Fransiscan Friars and given the name Bernard Alles.

John E.A. Alles (1908-1962) was a legal luminary amongst the Colombo Chetty community. He achieved the Bachelor of Arts (History Honors) and was also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in 1932. He was a member of the Judiciary Service of Ceylon in 1943. He also went on to become the District Judge of Colombo, Commissioner of Requests, Colombo, Magistrate, Point Pedro & Gampaha, District Judge, Ratnapura, Galle, & Colombo.
