New York Liberal Party, 1958. German ancestry. Member, Americans for Democratic Action. Theologian; Socialist and
pacifist until World War II; received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964. Died in Stockbridge, Berkshire
County, Mass., June 1, 1971. Interment at Stockbridge Cemetery, Stockbridge, Mass.
