Born in Dartmouth, Mass., 1844; educated in the public schools and academy. Graduated at State Normal School, Bridgewater, Mass. Taught two and a half years in grammar schools; returned to the State Normal School at Bridgewater and taught chemistry and mathematics for eight year. Principal of Oliver school of Lawrence five and a half years; resigned to accept the Superintendency of schools of Brockton, Mass., Jan 1, 1885, remaining to the present time.

During this time, the school population of that city has increased from 3,396 to 8,900, and the number of teachers from 65 to 223.

Lectures on educational subjects. President of the Essex County Teachers' Association; Plymouth County Teachers' Association; New England Association of School Superintendents.

Trustee of the public library of Brockton, Mass.
