Spalding, Rufus Paine (1798-1886) — of Ohio. Born in West Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Mass., May 3, 1798. Republican. Member of Ohio state legislature; justice of Ohio state supreme court, 1849-52; U.S. Representative from Ohio 18th District, 1863-69; delegate to Republican National Convention from Ohio, 1868. Died in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, August 29, 1886. Interment at Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
