Coes, John Henry, banker; born Springfield, Mass., Sept. 25. 1840; son of Aury Gates and Nancy (Maynard) Coes; descendant of John Coes, who came from England and settled in Worcester, Mass., previous to Revolutionary War; educated in public schools and Leicester and Wilbraham Academies; married, Worcester, Mass., Feb. 5, 1874, Arnie Brownell Hadwen. Entered father's business and learned trade of manufacturing wrenches; became member of firm of A. G. Coes & Co., 1869, which in 1888 became Coes Wrench Co., treasurer of same; disposed of interest in 1902; president and member of Finance Committee Mechanics' Savings Batik ; director and member Executive Committee Worcester Trust Co. Member Sons of American Revolution. Mason. Clubs: Commonwealth, Worcester, Tatnuck Country (Worcester) ; Massachusetts Agricultural (Boston).
