Great-great-great-grandson of John Adams; great-great-grandson of John Quincy Adams (1767-1848); great-grandson of Charles Francis Adams (1807-1886); grandnephew of John Quincy Adams (1833-1894) and Brooks Adams; first cousin once removed of Charles Francis Adams (1866-1954). Democrat. Served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II; candidate in primary for U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, 1966; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Massachusetts, 1972. Member, American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Died in Lincoln, Middlesex County, Mass., June 4, 1997.
