delegate to Republican National Convention from Massachusetts, 1956, 1960; Governor of Massachusetts, 1961-63,
1965-69; defeated, 1962; resigned 1969; candidate for Republican nomination for President, 1968; U.S. Secretary of
Transportation, 1969-73; U.S. Ambassador to Italy, 1973-77. Catholic. Italian ancestry. Died September 11, 1994 in
Salem, Essex County, Mass. Interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield, Mass.
