JOHN AUSTIN KELIHER

Keliher, John Austin (1866-1938), a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., November 6, 1866; attended the public schools; engaged in the real estate business in Boston, Mass.; member of the State house of representatives in 1896 and 1897; served in the State senate in 1899 and 1900; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1903-March 3, 1911); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1910 to the Sixty-second Congress; chairman of the Massachusetts Statehouse Building Commission in 1915 and 1916; member of the Massachusetts constitutional convention 1917-1919; elected sheriff of Suffolk County in 1917; reelected in 1920, 1926, and 1932, and served in that capacity until his death at Boston, Mass., on September 20, 1938; interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Roxbury, Mass.
