Sherborn is one of the older towns in Middlesex county, and it forms a portion of its southern border. Originally the territory was much larger, but it was reduced by the formation of new towns. It is located about 20 miles WSW of Boston.

Land grants began as early as 1643, and at intervals for thirty years; but always subject to the right of the Indians (Nipmucks), who received payment and gave deeds for all the land included in the township.

Although the Nipmuck Indians had been treated fairly in the purchase of the their lands, and were at first friendly, they were afterwards influenced and controlled by King Phillip with disastrous results to the settlers....................
