Essex County Cemeteries

Please check back often - we are still under construction and plan to grow a lot!

While I've always enjoyed walking through old cemeteries, it never occurred to me to work on recording the tombstones. I'm not one of those genealogy people that likes to search for long lost relatives.

Recently while visiting my sister Arlene Woody, the webmaster for two GenWeb counties in Georgia, I was introduced to cemetery recording/transcribing.  What fun!  I got to walk all through an old cemetery, something I love doing, and help preserve a piece of history at the same time.  When she said there was no reason I couldn't do this wonderful thing where I live, I was hooked!  So Arlene and I have teamed up to work on making all of the Essex County Massachusetts cemeteries available online.

Can you help?

Even an hour walking the cemetery and writing down names from tombstones once a week, or once a month... well, it would be a tremendous help! When I am doing that, I can get as many as 40-50 names in an hour, and I'm moving pretty slow, let me tell you!

Arlene has told me often how wonderful genealogists are (she's the genealogist in our family), and how willing most are to help each other.  This is your chance to help a lot of genealogists at once!

If you can help, please contact
