Foxborough Historical Society,
Foxborough Mass, USA

Tuesday, February 22 , 2005, at 7:30 pm, in the Boyden Library - Ames Shovel Industry

The speaker was Dr. Greg Galer, Curator of the StonehillAmes 1824 Shovel Industrial History Center and a recognized authority on the Ames Family of Easton. He gave an excellent illustrated presentation that revealed the depth and breadth of the family's activities.

The Ames Family may be best known as shovel-makers, but the story really just begins there. In addition, they were heavily involved in the construction of a major transcontinental railroad, managed copper mines in California and developed extensive suburbs of Omaha. They built the tallest building of its day in Boston, and also the Colonial Theater which they managed.
