Town CoordinatorTo produce and maintain a town web site, you need software to design your page and put it on the server. There are some free web authoring tools around and several ftp programs to move files to and from the server. You can do simple searches on the web using terms like genealogy, background, graphics, etc. to find many places that make graphics that you can use for free. Do not copy graphics from the Internet unless you know they are public domain with no copyright restrictions. You can get an idea of what is needed on a website by looking at many of the other town sites. Look at the Middlesex County towns page and see how some of the them are done. The requirements for a USGenWeb site are fairly simple -MUST haves:
Rootsweb offers free site hosting on their server. They are completely free and have no advertising. I maintain access to all town sites so they can be transferred when volunteers move n to other things. I'll need contact information for all volunteers, which will remain strictly confidential. |
