A Sad Death
Thomas McCrann, the man who was drowned in the canal Wednesday night, and whose body was found yesterday afternoon, was a native of Ireland but had lived in Lowell for the past twenty years. Last Wednesday morning he had gone out of the house saying "annual Ho! for the beach" and that was the last they saw of him until his body was recovered. A number of his friends spent all Thursday night grappling for the body in the canal but were unsuccessful. About 2 o'clock, however, some of the employees of the Machine shop saw the body floating near the Jackson street side of the canal, and getting a boat they brought it to shore. The body was then taken to Undertaker Davey's rooms for identification. The deceased was 55 years old and lived at 488 Market street. He was an employee of the Lowell Machine shop. He leaves a widow, a son and a daughter to mourn his loss and was very popular among his friends.
