The Arlington Advocate, 4 November 1898
| POLICE COURT |
| After a considerable period of watching, the police have captured the boys responsible for several
burglaries recently committed in the center, and they appear in Court today. Sunday night, Arthur Densmore,
14, Herbert H. Lesley, 10, and John Pendergast Jr., 12, entered the store of Mr. P. T. Hendricks through a
basement window in the rear, and stole several pairs of rubber boots. This they did so cleverly that they
escaped the notice of the officer on the beat; but while passing through Cambridge, about two o'clock in
the morning, they encountered an officer who wanted them to give an account of themselves, and out of
this investigation came an identification of the thieves and the property. When closely questioned by Chief
Harriman they admitted having been responsible for other thefts. |

| A tragedy in dog life was enacted on the center crossing Monday morning. Mr. Frank P. Winn's
dog, Dan, being the victim. The 8.07 train from Boston caught the poor fellow on the track and the body was
severed in two. Dan was a favorite and no man was better known than he at the center. His special delight
was to follow the fire department and he will be missed by the department stationed at the Broadway Hose
House. |
