| There was a little group of sadder, but wiser men in the police court on Monday, who deposited a two dollar bill with the court, with the promise to mend their ways. They were surprised at a certain little game in the small hours of Sunday morning, which is first cousin to penny-ante, the indulgence in which is against the statutes of this state. This little gambling game has been in progress for some time, with convenient headquarters within a stone's throw of police headquarters and the cruel guardians of the law and good morals, who can't forever be kept winking, pounced on the innocents and gobbled them quicker than a wink. |
