CELEBRATING 54TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. John H. Murphy Observe Event Quietly Today
In their comfortable home at 5 Madison Ave., Mr. and Mrs. John H. Murphy are today quietly observing the 54th anniversary of their wedded life. Owing to the death of their oldest son, Daniel, last November, there was no formal observance of the event.

Not often does one meet a couple so well preserved and free from the grinding cares of life as are Mr. and Mrs. Murphy today. In the best of spirits, with one long period of peaceful wedded happiness to look back over, the couple are enjoying life together, happy in the thought that they have raised a successful family and are at peace with the world and all its effects.

Seventy-four years ago, Mrs. Murphy was born Miss Mary O'Neil in the County of Cork, Ireland and came to this country when a little girl. In the same county four years earlier, Mr. Murphy first saw the light of day, and he, too, while still very young, came to this country.

It was natural that they should meet years later in this country and on May 22, 1859 they were united in the holy bonds of matrimony by Rev. Fr. Crudden at Lowell. Shortly after their marriage they moved to this city where they have since resided. Thirteen children were born to them, of whom seven survive. Mrs. Catherine Cuneo, wife of David Cuneo the well known fruit merchant of this city, Mrs. Nellie O'Neil of Warren, RI., Misses Anna, Elizabeth, and Margaret of this city, and Jeremiah and William also of this city. The couple have 23 grand children and one great grand child, Donald Walter O'Donnell, of Auburn, R.I.

Mrs. Murphy has always been an industrious and thrifty housewife and has made many friends in the locality in which she has resided for many years. Mr. Murphy is a bark tanner by trade, although long since retired. For 18 years he was boss tanner at the E. N. Blake tannery. The Times extends its congratulations to the happy couple.
