JOHN COLBERT
John Colbert, for over fifty years a resident of this town, died at his home, 40 Kensington Park, on Monday {23 June 1924} following a long and trying illness which had confined him to his bed for some time. Mr. Colbert was born in Ireland, but had been in this country from early manhood. He came to Arlington and for almost fifty years had lived at the residence in which he died. In early life he followed market gardening, but for many years had been retired from active business. His wife died seven years ago. The funeral took place on Thursday morning, a high mass of requiem being celebrated in St. Agnes’ church by Rev. Donald F. Simpson. The service was attended by a large number of relatives and friends of the family. Music for the service was by the members of the church choir. At the close of the mass, William F. Kelley, sang "Pie Jesu" and "De Profundis." The bearers were, George Mead, Kenneth Mead, Gerald Tobin, P.E.J. Colbert, John O’Brien and Edward Colbert. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Mr. Colbert is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John S. Tobin, Mrs. Edward McCaffrey and Miss Eleanor Colbert.
