| After a futile but courageous combat against the ravages of a deadly ailment, Harry Doherty, one time prominent High School athlete and the son of Anthony A. and Josephine E. (Carroll) Doherty of 3 Charles Street, passed away at his home yesterday morning. Harry had been bedridden for the past four months and only through sheer pluck and determination to survive that his mortality was prolonged until yesterday.
The news of young Doherty's death was received with a sincere pang of regret by his many friends, both young and old. He was of remarkable cheerful disposition and possessed a very keen sense of humor. Even during his long period of confinement, his sense of humor never dimmed and his conversation with his visitors was radiant with reminiscenses and happy thoughts of recovery. During his young life, he made a host of sincere friends who join with his family in mourning his loss. Harry Doherty attended the Woburn Public Schools and then entered Woburn High School, class of 1924. During his high school career, he distinguished himself as an athlete, having been probably the outstanding player of his class. He played second base on the team, and was one of the leading hitters of the Mystic Valley League. After completing his studies at High School, he entered the employ of a Boston business house. An attack of the ailment which finally caused his death, forced him to take to his bed and after six months battle, he finally conquered and was able to be about again. He enjoyed one year of health and happiness, when he was again suddenly seized by the ailment in a more vicious form. He was forced to his bed, which he never again left. During his four months illness, he hovered between life and death continually, and it was thought by his intimate friends that he would overcome the dread disease like he did on the previous occasion. During the last week, however, his vitality waned and despite a valiant attempt to stem the encroachment of death, he passed away yesterday morning. The deceased is survived by his father and mother, Anthony A. and Josephine E. Carroll Doherty, three sisters, Mrs. Eunice J. Welch of Winchester, Eileen, a teacher at the Johnson School, and Margaret G. Three brothers, Charles C. and Joseph [E.] Doherty of Woburn, and Edward A., a student at Holy Cross College, also survive him. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning from the home of the deceased at 8:30 A.M. High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. at St. Charles Church after which interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. |

| Harry Doherty, who passed away Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony A. Doherty of 3 Charles Street, was laid to rest this morning, at Calvary Cemetery. High mass of Requiem was celebrated at St. Charles Church at 9 o'clock, Rev. Patrick J. Quill officiating. During the mass, vocal solos were rendered by Mrs. Helen Studley and Miss Lilian Breslin, accompanied by Miss Esther Duffy on the organ. The pallbearers were: Charles T. Walsh, John Cahill, William Crovo, Charles R. Walsh, Arthur McCarron and William Coates.
Young Doherty passed away Sunday at his home after an illness of four months. He was a member of the Class of 1924, Woburn High School, and was one of the outstanding baseball players of the High School team. The remarkable array of floral pieces indicated the esteem in which the young man was held by his many acquaintances. |
