A. A. DOHERTY LAID AT REST THIS MORNING
The funeral of Anthony A. Doherty was held this morning from his late residence 3 Charles Street. High Mass of Requiem was celebrated at St. Charles Church at 9 o'clock. Rev. Patrick J. Quill officiated. During the mass, vocal solos were rendered by Mrs. Helen Studley with Miss Mary Parker at the organ. The pall bearers were Ex-Mayor William H. Henchey, Sgt. Timothy E. Walsh of the Police Department, Supt. Martin McCauley of the Highway Department, John J. McGann of the Fire Department, John Ryan and Jeremiah F. Carey. A delegation of Woburn Lodge of Elks led by Esteemed Loyal Knight James J. Wall and Secretary John V. Callahan acted as honorary poll bearers. After the mass, interment took place at Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Doherty passed away last Monday morning after a long illness. He was a prominent business man of the city for a number of years, having been proprietor of the Old Central House. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine E. Carroll Doherty, three daughters, Mrs. G. Hanson Foster, Mrs. Edward D. Welch and Margaret Doherty, all of this city, three sons, Charles, Edward and Joseph, and one sister, Mrs. Annie Lafferty of Woburn.

MRS. MAKAR ARRESTED
AND STILL SEIZED

   In response to a telephone call Monday that there was trouble in South Acton, Corp. William J. Puzzo and patrolman Thomas Hazelton of the State Police Patrol at Lake Walden went to the home of Mrs. Annie Makar, South Acton. They found her intoxicated, fighting with her neighbors. The police seized a 10-gallon still, also about a pint of moonshine and a quart of beer, as well as 50 empty bottles.
   Mrs. Makar was arrested after a struggle, charged with being drunk and with manufacturing liquor.

   The next meeting of the Concord Garden Club will be at the home of Recording Secretary Mrs. Francis B. Shepley of Carr road. There will be a paper by Mrs. Shepley on flowers and their proper arrangement into bouquets, together with some interesting facts and legends about flowers. To illustrate Mrs. Shepley's paper, Mrs. Louis A. Sohier, the well known artist, will make some arrangements of flowers.
   Mr. and Mrs. Wentworth Steware [sic] are frequently at their summer cottage at Ashburnham, Mass., for short stays.

MISS SOPHIA CHAPLIN
   Miss Sophia Chaplin, a life long resident of Concord, and a daughter of the late William and Sophia L. Chaplin, died Sunday.
   Funeral services were held this afternoon at the mortuary chapel at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

SKEET SHOOT OFF
   The fortnightly skeet shoot of the Concord Rod and Gun Club scheduled for Saturday, was called off on account of rain.
WEST CONCORD

   Miss Mary Williams of Williams street, West Concord, recent graduate of Framingham Normal school, is to assist Miss Mary Steinman, also of West Concord, who teaches grade 7 in the Ashland South Grammar school.
   John Thornton of new York City is spending his vacation with his mother on Crest street, West Concord. Mr. Thornton will resume his teaching in the Jesuit Elementary school, in September.
   Miss Loretta Dee, Miss Elizabeth Hennessey and Miss Catherine Christian will be guests of friends at Hull over Labor Day.
   Mrs. and Mrs. Jack Loring and family, accompanied by John Williams, motored to Falmouth, Saturday, and remained over Sunday with their daughter, who is residing there.
   John Prendergast and John Delaney spent a few days at Hampton Beach last week.
   Miss Ellen Hayes returned to her duties last Monday after a two weeks vacation part of which she spent touring in Maine.
   The Misses Genevieve and Mary Frawley spent the week end in Gloucester.
   Mrs. Charles Maloney and her children, Junior and Mary, spent a few days of last week at Nantasket.
   Richard Prendergast, a local boy, has been appointed to the Engineers Force on the President's Yacht, the U.S.S. Mayflower.
   John Chisholm has returned from Walpole where he has been visiting relatives.
   Mrs. Ernest Pringle and her daughter, Miss Helen Pringle are visiting relatives in Plymouth during this week.
   Mr. and Mrs. George Suprent are the parents of a daughter born Thursday of last week.
   Mrs. Ernest Carroll, Miss Elizabeth and Gladys Amerault and Mary Simms enjoyed a motor trip to Nova Scotia.
