Three Held for Fighting Police
Dracut Family Arrested for Alleged Assault on State Troopers
A Dracut family—father, mother and son—were arrested this afternoon at their home in Mercier street in connection with an alleged assault earlier in the day on three state troops from the Concord barracks of the state police.
The three, Charles Kasmarski, 45; his wife, Mary, 43, and the son, Andrew, 19; were booked at police headquarters here charged with hindering police officers in the service of a process, and assault upon Troopers Charles H. Furse, Anthony Lacaire, and Hollis C. Beattie. They will be arraigned in district court tomorrow morning.
According to a police report of the affair, the three troopers went to the Kasmarski home with a search warrant early this afternoon but were denied admittance to the home. Mr. and Mrs. Kasmarski, it is charged, joined their son in repelling the troopers when they sought to force an entry on the strength of the search warrant, which had been issued from the district clerk's place.
The Kasmarski youth was before the district court here last week charged with breaking and entering in the night time and larceny in connection with an early morning break last month at the Harry Chaplin store in Lakeview avenue and Mammoth road in Dracut. He was at large under bonds on that complaint pending trial next week. Troopers Furse and Lecaire were instrumental in arresting young Kasmarski on this charge.
In connection with the youth's arrest, the two troopers with Trooper Beattie, obtained a search warrant today authorizing them to enter and search for stolen articles believed to be secreted in the Mercier street dwelling.
